Passthrough Dishwashers

Commercial Passthrough & Hood Dishwashers

High-volume meal services demand an efficient, continuous dishwashing station to keep up with floor service. Commercial passthrough dishwashers, also referred to as hood-type dishwashers, are designed to sit at comfortable standing working heights between stainless steel dirty-inlet and clean-outlet benching. Instead of stooping down to load front doors, kitchen porters slide 500mm x 500mm dish racks directly into the open chamber, pull down the hood to initiate an automated wash cycle, and slide clean racks out onto drying benches seconds later.

This straight-line or corner-configured flow eliminates manual lifting, minimizes dish breakages, and processes high volumes of crockery, cutlery, and cookware per hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this collection.

A commercial passthrough dishwasher, also known as a hood-type dishwasher, is designed to handle high-volume dishwashing while fitting into a dedicated wash-up area. Racks are generally loaded at bench height, then moved into the machine before the hood is lowered for the wash cycle. This setup can create a practical workflow between the dirty and clean sides of a dishwashing station. Passthrough dishwashers are commonly suited to hotels, restaurants, cafés, clubs, schools, hospitals and catering facilities where larger quantities of plates, glasses, cutlery and kitchenware need to be processed during service. When choosing a unit, consider rack capacity, cycle times, machine dimensions, utilities and available space. If you're unsure whether a passthrough dishwasher suits your kitchen layout or washing volume, Cater Central can help you compare the relevant specifications.

Start by considering your busiest service periods and the quantity and type of wares your kitchen needs to wash. A hotel or large restaurant may require a higher-capacity machine to handle continuous rack loads, while a smaller operation may have different requirements. Check the dishwasher's rack dimensions, cycle options, clearance height and overall footprint against your available space. Water supply, drainage and electrical requirements are also important and should be confirmed before installation. Think about the complete workflow, including the location of the pre-rinse area, dishwasher, clean storage and staff movement around the machine. A suitable configuration can help make the wash-up area more practical. If you're unsure which commercial passthrough dishwasher matches your expected workload and kitchen layout, contact Cater Central for assistance.

Passthrough dishwashers are commonly used for commercial dishware such as plates, cups, cutlery, trays and other suitable kitchen items, depending on the machine's rack configuration and manufacturer's specifications. Before purchasing, consider the size and shape of the items your business washes most frequently. Glasses may require appropriate racks, while larger trays or kitchenware may need additional clearance. Heavy or baked-on food residue may also require pre-rinsing or other preparation according to the machine's instructions. Not every item is suitable for every commercial dishwasher, so always check the manufacturer's guidance. Hotels, restaurants and catering businesses should also consider whether their current dish racks are compatible with the selected machine. If you're unsure whether a particular passthrough dishwasher can accommodate your existing kitchenware, Cater Central can help you check the specifications.

Passthrough dishwashers require more than simply enough floor space. Before purchasing, check the manufacturer's requirements for electrical supply, water connection, drainage, machine clearance and any ventilation provisions. The hood needs sufficient vertical clearance to operate comfortably, while the surrounding benches should allow staff to load and unload racks efficiently. Consider positioning the dishwasher between a dirty wash-up area and a clean storage or drying area to support a logical workflow. Your kitchen should also have adequate access for delivery, installation and future servicing. Utility requirements vary between models, so they should be confirmed against your site's existing services before ordering. If you're planning a new hotel kitchen, renovation or commercial fit-out and aren't sure whether your space can accommodate a passthrough dishwasher, Cater Central can help identify the key specifications to review.

Yes. Cater Central supplies commercial passthrough dishwashers to hospitality and foodservice businesses Australia-wide, including hotels, restaurants, cafés, bars, clubs, schools, hospitals and catering operations. Freight costs vary depending on the delivery destination, machine size and weight, order quantity and delivery requirements. Because passthrough dishwashers are substantial commercial appliances, access should be considered before ordering. Check doorways, corridors, loading areas and the final installation space to ensure the machine can be delivered and positioned safely. Larger hotel projects or multiple-machine orders may require freight to be assessed based on the complete shipment. You should also confirm electrical, water and drainage requirements before purchase. If you're unsure which passthrough dishwasher is suitable for your operation or would like to check freight costs for your destination, contact Cater Central for assistance.
